Quick Navigation 1991 - 1999 (E36) Go Top I wonder if the Siemens contacts the firing circuits use, could have benefited from a similar redesign.Īnyway, just my 2 cents, in euros or dollars. That was some years ago and I have had no faults since.Īt one point, AMP refined their high-density MQS contacts to eliminate fretting failures.

Other than have an end tear out – how else will a clock spring fail?Īt one point I measured 6 ohms over the firing loop from the controller connector to the driver airbag squib, supposed the issue was contact fretting, and sprayed them all with a precious metal (PPE-5) lubricant.

It has a clock spring, a reel of ribbon cable that spools closer and father apart as you turn the wheel. Will post back in a few days if I luckI registered high resistance faults first in the passenger side firing circuit and then the driver's side. Have a new leather wrap on the way, so once it's here will take it apart and have a look. I'm sure I have one or two spare in folks garage. Had a look at a few other threads and seems like the slip rings are common cause.
